Piramidón, Centre d’Art Contemporani presents the second edition of the Acquisition and Residency Award at the MARTE Fair, a platform recognised for its commitment to both emerging and established contemporary art. This initiative awards the selected artist with the acquisition of one of their works for the institution’s collection and a two-month artistic residency in one of Piramidón’s studios in Barcelona.

The residency includes both living and working space, offering the creator the opportunity to immerse themselves in a vibrant cultural context. During their stay, the artist can integrate into the city’s creative environment, take part in a group exhibition, and establish connections with other artists, curators, and collectors.

The winner of the 2020 edition is Alejandro Calderón (Madrid, 1978). What stands out most in Calderón’s work are the everyday elements he uses as the foundation of his pieces. Throughout his career, these objects have become a kind of personal signature, recognisable despite the diversity of series he develops. The artist experiments with forms, lighting, and the arrangement of elements, creating a kind of mise-en-scène that he carefully plans before each work.
