Piramidón, Centre d’Art Contemporani presents the first edition of the Acquisition and Residency Award at the MARTE Fair, a platform recognised for its commitment to both emerging and established contemporary art. This initiative awards the selected artist with the acquisition of one of their works for the institution’s collection and a two-month artistic residency in one of Piramidón’s studios in Barcelona.

The residency includes living and working space, offering the creator the opportunity to immerse themselves in a vibrant cultural context. During their stay, the artist can integrate into the city’s creative environment, take part in a group exhibition, and build connections with other artists, curators, and collectors.

The winner of the 2019 edition is Juan de Morenilla (Murcia, 1992). His work invites viewers into a personal universe where the absurd sets the pace. His pieces reject haste and question the logic of productivity, creating spaces in which coherence dissolves and the unexpected takes centre stage. The figure of the artist appears as an example of embracing failure, while humour and play function as tools to confront it and discover new ways of looking and feeling.
