The Barcelona Crea 2026 Grant at Piramidón, Contemporary Art Center, is a six-month artistic residency aimed at contemporary visual artists who reside in or have ties to Barcelona and its metropolitan area. With the support of the Institut de Cultura de Barcelona (ICUB), this grant is part of the Barcelona Crea programme and aims to promote new creation projects, encourage experimentation, and foster connections with the local and international artistic community.
The artist selected for the 2026 edition is Carla García Castelló, who is carrying out her residency at Piramidón. Her practice stems from observing everyday spaces and paying attention to those details that often go unnoticed, highlighting the banal and the routine as drivers of visual production.
Within this context, she is developing the project “Ara, que ja hi som totes”, a pictorial investigation articulated through movement between Barcelona, Cambrils, and Lleida. Through the contemplation and study of these environments, she gathers fragments, shapes, and objects that she later reinterprets in painting, generating images situated between memory, perception, and imagination.
Her work, focused mainly on painting —especially oil and drawing—, explores layering, transparency, and atmosphere, while also incorporating archives, photography, and writing as part of the process. The resulting pieces are conceived as spaces of encounter where the collected elements coexist and build a visual imaginary of their own.
